Project overview
Beyond a good answer, I care about whether an AI assistant can carry a task forward and understand where I left off. I am still watching how agent capabilities develop; meanwhile, I can take ownership of memory. I use Obsidian to retain project context, reading notes, and personal judgments in local files that I can revisit or share with another model.
How I use it
- Keep local files; share relevant context. Markdown notes and bidirectional links connect ideas across topics. A new assistant can receive useful history, beyond a condensed personal profile.
- Search before adding. Update existing notes first; create a new file for a genuinely separate topic. Preserve original wording and the reasoning behind changes of mind.
- Keep attribution clear. Distinguish my views, source material, and AI interpretations. A question does not imply agreement, and an unanswered suggestion is not a decision.
- Bring notes back into daily life. In my WeRead notes, I keep the source of each highlight alongside my interpretations and disagreements. I also use Muse’s feed to revisit five items from my knowledge base each day.
This is an evolving personal workflow. Assistants need appropriate access to use the relevant files; their internal memories are not automatically synchronized.
